"Style is something each of us already has, all we need to do is find it." Diane von Furstenberg
Every season brings new trends, colours and silhouettes, and I always make sure to update my wardrobe with a few of-the-moment pieces. Yet, there are certain styles I’ve had for years that remain classic like skater dresses so perfect for everyday and occasion events.
Did you know that skater dresses were actually inspired by figure skaters, who traditionally wore a fitted dress on top and a flared skirt on the bottom?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been into skater dresses that seem to ooze femininity and give a tremendously sophisticated and feminine look with utter comfort. This style is one of the most flattering and best dresses to own right now!
I think what attracted me to this pretty Ted Baker number in the first place was the colour and the fabric combination as well as the intricate cut and shape, which gives this time-tasted staple a slightly more dramatic look and feel. Another reason, and this goes for pretty much most of my dresses, is how comfortable it is to wear and how easily it transforms from a casual wear-anywhere day dress to a cute cocktail hour option. As you well know, versatility is extremely important to me. I’m always on the lookout for something dramatic, elegant and timeless, yet also the type of dress I could wear again and again.
Last but certainly not least are the pockets. You know how I feel about pockets on dresses in general, but pockets on skater dresses happen to be my particular weakness!
This style also comes in blue and it’s currently on sale! Hurry as sizes are going super fast. Heels are always my go-to shoe option for any outfit really and a pair of sock boots with a touch of drama never fails to drive a look home. It’s been all about the ‘sock’ obsession for me lately. Aside from the fact that this trend is having a moment right now, sock boots look good with pretty much anything not to mention the fact that they tend to elongate your silhouette unlike anything else.
Skater Dresses & Casual look
A single coloured skater dress is definitely appropriate for a casual outing. Plain dresses are perfect canvasses to play with you accessorises. Long chains look incredibly chic, add sunnies, a pair of flats and a cute cross body bag. Get your makeup on point with some pink blush and nude pink lipstick and you’re ready.
Skater Dresses & Formal Events
You can’t to fail to pull off an impeccable look with a black skater dress paired with some statement jewellery that tends to add to the dramatic look of an evening outfit. The skater dress style looks incredible with heels, it makes legs look longer and you can make things a little smarter with a blazer.
Skater Dresses & Winter
Add some winter basics to make your skater dress winter ready. You will need a pair of warm tights. Add a sweater/jacket to look winter chic. You can also wear a cardigan if it’s not that cold. Wearing a skater dress with ankle boots is an excellent choice to make your winter warmer and way more stylish. It will look great with a coat, and any other wither clothing attributes. The great thing about skater dresses is that they look amazing with any type of boots, so what are you waiting for?! Start experimenting!
The beautiful thing about skater dresses is that there is literally no wrong way of wearing them! They never fail to make a fun, playful statement, and make every outfit feel just a bit more special!
